Custom bikes, bringing the world
together one build at a time. Who would think that building a beautiful
motorcycle would be of such a benefit to multiculturalism? Today’s
feature bike is an American machine, fabricated in India, modified in
the style of the British and built by an Indonesian custom motorcycle
workshop. With so many nationalities putting a bit into this bike, this
2015 Harley Davidson Street 500 went through a coffee maker to produce
the smooth racer you see here today. The
brief for the build was to produce a style like a modern cafe racer that
wouldn’t look out of place in the 60s. Built from the ground up using
Indonesian ingenuity in the face of a limited custom bike scene, but we
certainly knows the best options when it comes to bringing a bike to
life. Ladies and Gentleman, we’d like to introduce you to ‘THE DT’, we
built like a Cafe Racer.
The layout for the bike was adjusted
accordingly, and a blueprint for a full cafe racer style bike to be
wrapped around the American V-twin. Building on previous experience, a
stock frame was to be utilized, we only modified sub frame based on
guidance from the final design. One inch seamless pipework laid the
groundwork, and was overlaid with 1.2mm galvanized plate in the form of
cafe racer inspired bodywork. We made the fuel tank with rounded
teardrop style and combined with SM Design gas cap. Helping to give the
bike it’s sporting stance, the front end is fitted with a set of 43 – 55
mm Upside Down, donated by a Suzuki GSXR-1000. At the rear sits a set
of 14 inch Ohlins Progressive shock, customized to suit the more
aggressive riding style the bike would be subjected to. Rim choice for
both front and rear is TK Japan with 17X3.50 inch and 17x.5.00 inch,
shod in Metzeler M7RR tread rubber. Tire specifications on this build
are 120/70-17 on the front, and 180/55-17 on the rear, giving that
awesome balloon profile that cafe racers desire and nice to be on road.
To ensure the custom machine pulls up in a hurry, brakes all round are
Tokico Japan cylinder equipped. Happy with the factory output of HD
Street , we decided to leave the internals alone. Open air filter from
Skull and Danmoto 2 in 1 exhaust system is more focused on improving the
engine note at speed rather than motivating the bike itself. Finally,
the whole package was painted by Komet Studio in the colors of classic
white and gold leaf stripe. Using Spies Heckers paint products, the
finish is a beautiful composite of bike and totally concept.
With the build finished, there is only one thing left to do, and it is best summed up by us: “Ride your bike brother!”.
